A Day for Real Moms

Submitted by Chris Conly on Mon, 05/14/2018 - 15:47

Mother’s Day, a day to honor mothers, is that a suggestion or a command?  Do all mothers have to be honored on Mother’s Day, or any other day?  Is being a mother sort of like being the president where just holding the office comes with a certain level of respect?  I cannot answer these questions with the same answer so I must explain.  I am sure you have heard comments like, “Any woman can have a baby, but that doesn’t make her a mom”.  We could debate the definition of mom or mother, but you get the point.  Having a baby comes with responsibilities.

I Lost My Glasses

I lost my glasses and it’s driving me crazy!  I know when I used them last.  I have a pretty good recollection of those last few moments when they were in my possession, where I was, what I was doing.  I even remember, within a few minutes, the exact time.  I also can recall when I would have needed to be wearing them, and when I would have taken them off.  I just cannot remember the last place I sat them or where they might have fallen out of my shirt pocket.  They have fallen out before and I am aware of the possibility, so I have factored that in too, but I still have not found them.  Wh

Insurance, Gotta Love it.

It is inventory time.  I want you to make a mental list of all the insurance you have.  I know it is going to hurt a little.  There are so many things we insure.  Ok, I’ll help.  Starting with the basics, we have Home, Health, Auto & Life.  Good start but each one of these have possible branches don’t they?  Renter’s insurance, short & long term disability, motorcycle, boat & burial policies.  Famous people have been known to insure the thing that makes them famous.

Just an Old Map

You just bought a new house, a fixer-upper.  You have been watching HGTV and now it’s your turn.  Time to go to work!  As you are cleaning out the basement, you see something interesting.  Something is sticking out of a crack in the wall.  Looks like a rolled up piece of leather, or thick paper.  You pull it out, unroll it, and what do you know, it’s a map.  And of course there is a nice big X in the bottom left quarter.  A treasure map!  If this was for real, what would you want the treasure to be?  Before you answer, let me ask another question.  What need are you lacking?  I said NEED, n

Pain - part 2

Submitted by Chris Conly on Mon, 04/02/2018 - 13:28

The continued topic from last week is pain; physical pain, pain to the body that is easy to define and understand, verses that inside pain to our psyche that can get complicated.  We could begin an endless list covering the differences of these two pains.  I’m sure some are forming in your head right now, but let’s keep things simple.  Let us look at the similarity.  We call them both pain, so there has got to be some common ground.  There is, and we said it last week.  Pain is a tool.  Whether physical, emotional, mental, whatever, God uses pain to try and teach us something.  Pain is

Pain, Cute When It's a Baby.

Pain is a very odd thing isn’t it?  You might disagree at first, but think about it.  Yes, it is a simple word and all of us would readily say we know what it means.  We become familiar with pain the day we are born (really before that, but we won’t get into that discussion).  We all know of the proverbial swat to the bottom of a new born baby to induce a cry.  Crying is needed as a jumpstart to breathing, so inflict a little pain and “voila” we have crying!  As the baby grows, pain is used to teach discipline.  Nothing like a little pain to gain understanding to that word a baby h

You have just bought your dream car.  It is the perfect color and has all the features you have always wanted, plus a few more you didn’t know existed.  This baby has everything!  It is comfortable and gets great gas mileage, while being fast and sporty.   Should we even mention how good you look in it?  On top of all that, you got it at a price well below what you expected.  Ahhhh!  The sun is shining, birds are singing and everything is going your way, when all of a sudden, Clug! Clug! Shutter!

Prophecy of Blessings

People are fascinated with prophecy, and we will take it any way we can get it.  Anything from crystal balls to Tarot cards, palm readings, horoscopes, fortune cookies, and of course, psychic hotlines.  This is not just a modern day attraction.  We have searched for help into the unknown ever since there has been an unknown.  The Bible tells about Simon the Sorcerer, Balaam - the prophet for hire, and even king Saul sought the aid of a medium to bring back Samuel.
